More About St. Louis Paperweights 3
| The St. Louis factory seems to have been especially fond of the salamander or lizard, and one of the best of the old weights using this subject is shown in the Illustration on the left. The lizard in this case is represented as about to devour an insect on the groound.

| Another example, representing superb workmanship,is a hollow pink and opaque white overlay, and has a coiled salamander on the crown.

| The deep blue entwining snake on a frosted base is another St.Louis creation-although the gold flecks, partially worn off, might seem to indicate that it is a Bristol, for in the Bristol weights the gold often behaved in this manner. The St. Louis identification is established, however, by the bluish cast and hardness of the opaque base.

| An especially interesting St. Louis is the "Ducks in the Pond" shown in the Illustration on the left. This weight stands out as a rare and important specimen. The little ducks are swimming in a clear glass pond, and green glass around the outside is intended to represent grass. Only a few of these weights were ever made.

| Among St.Louis flower subjects the favorite was the large full-blown aster, in pink,purple, or yellow. The asters used were sometimes so large that they covered nearly the entire base, scarcely leaving room for the points of a few green leaves.
